Project Highlight: Language Wellness

It's been blessedly less humid here in Florida this week. Sure, it's still in the high 80s and a hot pumpkin latte sounds a bit like torture, but dare I say... it's starting to feel like autumn.

Fall always feels like a good reminder that change is inevitable.

Ecommerce is no different. Algorithms change. Spending habits shift. What worked last season might not work this one.

I've had so many conversations about this with our clients this year. Across the board, the ones who are succeeding have learned that the trick isn’t fighting the change. It’s paying attention, adapting and being willing to let go of what isn’t working anymore.

It's been a good reminder for me too, personally and professionally. Not every season is for growth. Some are for planting, some for pruning, and some for figuring out what you want to grow next. πŸ‚

Just Launched: Language

Language began as KM Mushrooms, a five-year-old mushroom farm in the Bay Area with a loyal following at local farmers markets. As the business prepared to evolve beyond fresh mushrooms into tinctures, skincare, seasonings, grow kits, and eventually everyday staples like coffee and tea, the brand needed a digital presence capable of evolving with it. Alongside a new name and visual identity, Language needed an e-commerce experience that could introduce a much bigger idea of what a wellness company could be.

Visually, our goal was to create an experience that felt distinctive and editorial while still making product discovery and purchasing intuitive. I particularly love the gorgeous, unexpected color palettes, highly textural, ethereal imagery and immersive animations.

Built on Shopify, the site brings subscriptions, product reviews, and Klaviyo into a cohesive customer journey while prioritizing responsive behavior, accessibility, SEO, and an intuitive mobile experience. The underlying system was designed to make the site easy for the Language team to manage as its product catalog and content continue to grow.

Truly, I'm really proud of this one. It was a good creative brain stretch for our team, and feels super unique and authentic in a crowded natural skincare/wellness vertical.

As the algorithms change, AI slop multiplies, and buying habits continue to shift, I really do believe that great design and a delightful experience will be THE edge that defines a successful brand.

I was eating yogurt and granola for breakfast this morning (proof below!) and realized I haven't yet shared a very fun project I worked on this summer with NuTrail. NuTrail makes nut granola with no added sugar, just nature's nuts and seeds and a little bit of real butter. It's seriously so delicious that it's now a true regular in my weekly Costco order. This week, we launched a new website for Kefir Lab! Kefir Lab makes probiotic drinks for people who actually care what's in them. They are sold nationwide in stores like Whole Foods, Erewhon, and Sprouts... but their website was outdated and needed a makeover. It wasn't landing with their core audience: Gen Z and millennial...

Ashli from Basis here! It's been nearly 18 months since I last sent an email newsletter. To be honest, I wasn't sure I had anything to say. When I send an email, I don't want to add more noise. And with the onslaught of AI slop and the ability to generate anything at anytime, nothing I wrote felt worthy of sharing. But, I've come out the other side deciding that humans sharing their creativity with each other still feels meaningful. So over the next few months, I want to share some of the...
